Top Romantic Comedy Movies

Looking for a good rom-com to watch or rewatch? This list has got you covered. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or just in the mood for a good laugh, these films are sure to bring a smile to your face and warm your heart. I’ve narrowed down the many romantic comedies to a select few that should provide plenty of options for anyone looking to start watching romantic comedies or anyone who wants to refresh their memory and rewatch a favourite.

I’ve also included a category watchability scale to help you understand what to expect from each of these dramas. The scale goes from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest grade and 1 being the lowest. These ratings are based on my personal and hardly biased opinion, of course.

Grab some popcorn, snuggle up on the couch, and get ready to fall in love (or at least laugh a lot) with these top romantic comedy movies.

27 dresses

This movie illustrates the saying “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” through the character of Jane, a talented wedding planner who has been a bridesmaid for more than twenty brides. While Jane enjoys weddings and being a bridesmaid, she begins to question her role when her sister gets engaged to the man of her dreams and Jane is asked to plan the wedding. Along the way, Jane’s story catches the attention of a reporter who becomes involved with her in a unique way. Overall, I find this drama to be enjoyable, interesting, and romantic.

The Proposal

To avoid deportation, Margaret, a dynamic book editor, lies that she is engaged to her unlucky assistant, Andrew. Reluctantly, and with certain conditions in place, Andrew agrees to the arrangement. To convince an annoying immigration official, they both travel to Andrew’s hometown to meet his family. During this annoyingly laborious visit, a connection starts to form between Margaret and Andrew as they navigate their fake engagement and the challenges it brings. This movie perfectly portrays the “enemies to lovers” or, in this case, the “hateful colleagues to lovers” trope.

Leap Year

Perhaps the king movie for the “enemies to lovers” trope. Anna travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on February 29th, the one day tradition allows a woman to propose to a man. Along the way, she hires Declan, a grumpy Irish innkeeper, to drive her. Despite their initial differences, Anna and Declan embark on a romantic journey of self-discovery, which could lead to them falling for each other.

Just Wright

Are you a fan of buzzer-beaters? Or at least a fan of popular guy falls for normal girl movies? If so, you’ve found the right movie. Leslie Wright, a physical therapist and avid basketball fan, unexpectedly meets a professional basketball player, Scott McKnight. She gets invited to his party and brings her friend, Morgan, along. Morgan and Scott get together and everything goes seemingly well until Scott gets injured while playing. Leslie is tasked with helping Scott recover and they begin to develop feelings for each other, during this process. Their relationship is tested when Scott’s ex-girlfriend comes back into the picture. This is probably my most rewatched movie. It’s very well paced and never fails to put a smile on my face.

50 First Dates

Ever wonder how high the romantic partner bar can be set? In this movie, Henry, a marine veterinarian, falls in love with Lucy, a woman who suffers from short-term memory loss and cannot remember anything that happened the day before. Despite this obstacle, Henry tries to win her over by making her fall in love with him everyday, leading to a series of humorous and heartwarming moments as he tries to make a lasting impression on her.

10 Things I Hate About you

In the movie, Kat is a high school student who is seen as unapproachable and difficult by her peers. In order to allow her younger sister, Bianca, to date, Kat’s father insists that she must have a suitor of her own. Enter Patrick, a potential and unexpected suitor who is hired to woo Kat. This leads to a series of humorous and romantic interactions between the two. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and was eager to see the creative approaches Patrick took in his pursuit of Kat.

These movies will have you laughing, crying, or even swooning. They never fail to put me in a good mood, and I know they will do the same for you. Honourable mentions include; She’s the man, She’s all that, How to lose a guy in 10 days, and Just Go with it. Those movies also have great humorous and romantic storylines.
