Yes! I’ve narrowed it down to just 5! 2023 truly delivered some outstanding Korean dramas. With a diverse range of shows, many earning a solid 80% or more, the choices were abundant. Having immersed myself in the majority of the dramas from that year, selecting the crème de la crème is no easy task. But, as they say, my mother didn’t raise a quitter, so without further ado, presenting the 5 best K-dramas of 2023!
In no particular order ….
1. My Dearest
A man vows never to marry but crosses paths with a woman who desires marriage, but just not with him. Need I say more??? The personal drama isn’t the only thing that makes this series intriguing. It’s unfolding during the Qing Invasion in Joseon, so brace yourself for a rollercoaster of politics, wars, and action. There’s so much to love about this drama, but I absolutely adore the chemistry and acting of the main leads. For those who are up for an action-packed historical drama and love to binge, this has a whopping 21 episodes! Indulge!! This drama can be found on Viki.
2. Moving
Superpowers and an amazing plot! This drama has it all—action, romance, government agencies, family, and a nice slow build-up. Each episode features a somewhat different story that’s explored, and it all gets tied together as we progress. You definitely root for some characters and come to understand them more by the series’ end. The pacing is great, and the effects are done quite well. This drama has 20 episodes and is currently streaming on DisneyPlus.
3. Bloodhounds
Who loves boxing? Who enjoys kick-ass action sequences? Who appreciates 20 vs 1 fight scenes? And finally, who loves Woo Do-Hwan? Count me in for all of these! That’s precisely why this drama was such a winner for me. Non-stop action and a compelling plot from start to finish. The cherry on top? It’s only 8 episodes, so no dragged-out storyline. Bloodhounds is currently available on Netflix.
4. Alchemy Of Souls
Alchemy Of Souls is a fantasy historical K-drama centered around a mage determined to alter his destiny, with the aid of a maid possessed by an infamous assassin. If that premise doesn’t intrigue you to give this show a shot, I’m not sure what will. I found the series so captivating that I wrote reviews about it. Explore our Alchemy of Souls Part 1 and Part 2 reviews! This show is accessible on Netflix and has a whopping 30 episodes!
5. Love to Hate You
A man who distrusts women and a woman who hates losing to men are forced to do the unthinkable – date! This is the kind of typical cheesy, fun, and hilarious drama that we’ve all been missing. It’s not overly intense and will keep you glued from start to finish. The highlight of this drama is undeniably the female lead. She’s strong, hilarious, and doesn’t take any nonsense from anyone. Don’t miss out—check this drama on Netflix!
I hope at least one of those was your favourite K-drama for 2023! These dramas are amazing and exceptionally well-produced. Feel free to mention any that I might have missed in the comments.
